Hyderabad, May 23: Results for the Sriperumbudur Lok Sabha Constituency in Tamil Nadu has been declared by the Election Commission of India (ECI). TR Baalu of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party has won the seat. The counting of votes for the Sriperumbudur Lok Sabha Constituency began at 8 AM on Thursday, May 23. This is one of the 39 Parliamentary constituencies in Tamil Nadu which went to poll on April 18. The constituency number of the Sriperumbudur constituency is 5 and is not reserved for any category (General Category).
This constituency came into existence in the year 1967 and has six legislative segments. Sriperumbudur is where the former Prime Minister of our country, Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated. With over 1,200,000 electors, the Sriperumbudur Lok Sabha constituency is one of the largest parliamentary constituencies of the state and represents the Kanchipuram District. In the 2014 Lok Sabha Elections, Ramachandran, K.N. Thiru of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) had defeated Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) candidate Jagathrakshakan, S. Thiru. The AIADMK candidate won the majority with 545,820 votes.
