New Delhi, May 31: Days after the Lok Sabha Elections 2019 debacle where Congress hardly managed to win 52 seats and party president Rahul Gandhi willing to offer his resignation, newly elected parliamentarians will meet for the first time on Saturday. They are most likely to elect the leader of the Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP) and Leader of Opposition for Lok Sabha.
It is to be known that the current leader of CPP is Sonia Gandhi. She would be chairing the meeting of 52 Lok Sabha MPs and its members in the Rajya Sabha. Besides Rahul Gandhi, party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is also supposed to attend the meeting. According to reports, the meeting would take place in the central hall of Parliament. As per expectations, MPs will also chalk out its strategy for the upcoming session of Parliament and also decide the leader of the opposition for Lok Sabha. This would be the second meeting where Rahul would mark his presence after he offered his resignation to quit as Congress chief in the party’s working committee held on May 25.
In the meantime, several party workers from Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Bihar on Friday started a relay hunger strike here urging Rahul Gandhi to take back his decision to resign as party president. With the latest development, Congress's CWC has already rejected his offer to resign. The party's committee had unanimously passed a resolution authorising him to bring structural changes.
