Sonia Gandhi 'Happy' With 3-0 Verdict in Favour of Congress, Calls it 'Victory Against BJP's Negative Politics'

Showcasing its best sign of resurgence in the 2018 assembly elections, the Congress won 114 seats in Madhya Pradesh, 99 seats in Rajasthan and 68 seats in Chhattisgarh.

New Delhi, December 12: The Congress on Tuesday staged a massive comeback in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh by ousting the  Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from the three states. Showcasing its best sign of resurgence in the polls this year, the Congress won 114 seats in Madhya Pradesh, 99 seats in Rajasthan and 68 seats in Chhattisgarh. Speaking on the landslide victory, Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday expressed happiness over the massive victory.  Gandhi said the victory of the Congress party is a victory against the negative politics of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Congress Decimates BJP in Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan, Emerges as Single Largest Party in Madhya Pradesh; TRS Gets Telangana, MNF Defeats Congress in Mizoram.

In Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, the Congress registered a landslide victory, bringing an end to the 15-year rule of the BJP government. Raman Singh, who was Chhattisgarh's three-time chief minister resigned on Tuesday, accepting responsibility for the defeat. Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan resigned on Wednesday.

In Rajasthan, Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje submitted her resignation to Governor Kalyan Singh on Tuesday. In a landslide victory, the Congress won 99 seats, while the BJP got 73, as per the State Election Commission Office. The Bahujan Samaj Party won 6 seats, CPI(M) 2, Independents 13 and other parties got 6. According to the state Election Commission's website, the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD), an ally of the Congress, won one seat. Together, they have 100 seats -- which is the required number to form a government in the state.
