Bhopal, May 9: Union Minister and BJP leader Smriti Irani faced an embarrassing situation while campaigning in Madhya Pradesh's Ashoknagar district, as per a video making rounds on social media. The clip, released by MP Congress unit, shows the crowd emphatically replying "yes" on being asked by Irani whether the Kamal Nath government had waived off the loans.

Irani was addressing a BJP public meeting in Ashoknagar, located nearly 200 km away from Bhopal. Much to her surprise, Irani faced some non-BJP supporters in the crowd, who did not answer her questions in accordance to the rhetoric. On the loan-waiver question, a group is heard vociferously saying, "It has been waived off". LatestLY, however, cannot verify authenticity of the clip.

The farm loan-waiver is one of the tallest poll plank put forth by Congress president Rahul Gandhi in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections 2019. The party has also promised to make farm loan default a civil offence, which will not lead to the farmer's arrest if he fails to pay back the dues on time.

The BJP government, meanwhile, had rolled out the Kisan Samman Yojana in the final budget, which promises a Rs 6,000 per year aid to the beneficiary farmers
