New Delhi, May 24: Prime Minister Narendra Modi led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) managed to reach the majority figure mark on its own for a second time in a row. The saffron party looks set to win 300 seats on its own which is a remarkable feat. However, it is Smriti Irani who is standing tall among a galaxy of leaders, for it is she who defeated Rahul Gandhi in the Congress bastion of Amethi. The Amethi Lok Sabha seat has been held by the Congress party right since 1967, when elections were first held on this seat. Only twice, in 1977 and 1998, did a Non-Congress candidate win from the seat. By defeating the Congress chief, Smriti Irani has ensured that Rahul becomes the first Gandhi scion to lose the family bastion of Amethi.
Irani's victory has bolstered the Bharatiya Janata Party's "Congress Mukt Bharat" campaign which intends to "wipe out" the grand old party from every nook and corner of India.
After her victory, Irani tweeted an inspirational phrase highlighting her struggle to win Amethi and the people of the constituency.

Smriti Irani has often credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for believing in her and thanked him for his decisive leadership. By winning the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, PM Modi has become only the third Prime Minister after Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi to get elected with full majority after five years in power.
