Seema Mahto's husband, Amit Mahto, was the sitting MLA from the Silli seat but was disqualified following his conviction in a criminal case that put him behind bars for 2 years which necessitated a bypoll.

Ranchi, May 27: By-elections for the assembly seats of Gomia in Jharkhand will be held on Monday, May 28. Silli is an assembly constituency in the state of Jharkhand. The seat was represented by Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) party legislator Amit Kumar Mahto but has been vacant as the sitting MLA is in jail under criminal charges. The bypolls will be a test for the BJP government in the state as the opposition has united against the ruling party's candidate.
The JMM candidate is supported by both the Congress and the JVM on the seats of Gomia and Silli. The AJSU and BJP, who are ruling the state in coalition, are fighting separately in Gomia. In Silli, there is expected to be a tough fight between AJSU's Sudesh Mahto and JMM's Seema Mahto, whose husband was representing the constituency before going to jail.

Date of voting and results: The election will be held on May 28 across Silli. The results will be declared by the Election Commission on May 31.

Candidates in Fray: In Silli, the president of BJP's ally AJSU Party's Sudesh Mahto is contesting the seat against JMM's Seema Devi. Sudesh and Seema are the prominent faces among the 10 candidates in the fray.
The campaigning for the seats ended on Friday. With the voting taking place on Monday, May 28, all the parties will eagerly await the results which will be declared today. The seat of Silli will also be a test for the JMM as it will try to retain the seat that its candidate had won in 2016 Assembly Elections. What can go against BJP in this constituency is that the opposition has united against the saffron party in a strategic move to stop BJP at any cost.
