New Delhi, October 15: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor found himself in a tricky situation after his remarks on Ram Mandir in Uttar Pradesh's Ayodhya. Speaking at 'The Hindu Lit For Life Dialogue 2018', Shashi Tharoor said no good Hindu wants a temple by razing a mosque. The author of 'Why I Am A Hindu' also said that Hinduism is all about acceptance.

"While a vast majority of Hindus believes that Ayodhya was the birthplace of Lord Ram. No good Hindu would want to see a Ram temple built by demolishing somebody else's place of worship," Tharoor said. The former Minister of State for External Affairs also said the new law regarding triple talaq criminalises a civil offence. Floccinaucinihilipilification Is the New F-Word From Shashi Tharoor’s Dictionary! Know the Meaning & How to Pronounce It.

Quoting Swami Vivekananda, Tharoor said, "I don’t disparage other faiths because Hinduism is about acceptance." When asked can the Hindu-Muslim divide be bridged, the Congress leader replied, "Essential nature of India is still inclusive. It cannot be denied indefinitely. The polarisation is temporary, stoked for political purposes."

Tharoor's comment came on a day when Shiv Sena, an ally of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), asked the government to bring an ordinance to clear the way for construction of Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut said the BJP should stop talking about Ram Mandir and better make way for Ram temple through an ordinance.

"We demand that like you (centre) made law on triple talaq and brought an amendment in SC/ST Act, bring an ordinance for Ram temple in Ayodhya. There's majority in Lok Sabha and state assemblies. We have our President to sign the ordinance. So instead of talking, bring the ordinance," Raut said, as reported by ANI.
