Shashi Tharoor Comes Out in Support of P Chidambaram, Praises Him for ‘Standing Up to Persecution’

Senior Indian National Congress (INC) leader Shashi Tharoor on Wednesday, August 21, came out in support of his party colleague and former Finance Minister P Chidambaram. In a tweet, Tharoor praised Chidambaram for "standing up to persecution and character assassination."

New Delhi, August 21: Senior Indian National Congress (INC) leader Shashi Tharoor on Wednesday, August 21, came out in support of his party colleague and former Finance Minister P Chidambaram, who has been missing since Tuesday after the Delhi High court opened doors for his arrest in INX media case. The court quashed his anticipatory bail when Justice Sunil Gaur denied interim protection from arrest. P Chidambaram's Bail Plea in INX Media Case to be Heard by Supreme Court on August 23, Top Court to Decide on Bench of Judges Tomorrow.

In a tweet, Shashi Tharoor praised Chidambaram for "standing up to persecution and character assassination." The Thiruvananthapuram MP also said that justice will prevail in the end. P Chidambaram Gets No Immediate Relief From Supreme Court, ED Issues Lookout Notice Against Former FM.

"It is a tribute to your strength of character that you are standing up to persecution &character assassination w/ courage & confidence. I believe justice will prevail in the end. Till then we will have to allow some malicious minds their schadenfreude," Tharoor tweeted.

Meanwhile, many Congress leaders came out in support of former finance minister. Rahul Gandhi called it a "disgraceful misuse of power", while his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said that P Chidambaram was being "shamefully hunted down".

On Wednesday, Chidambaram's counsels failed to obtain a stay on the Delhi High Court order from the Supreme Court as the top court refused to list the matter urgently. The apex court will hear the matter on Friday.
