Madhubani, May 5: The Indian National Congress (INC) Party on Sunday suspended Shakeel Ahmed, former Member of Parliament (MP), from the party for contesting as an Independent candidate from Madhubani Lok Sabha seat in the 2019 general elections. The grand old party has given its ticket to Mukesh Sahni's party- Vikassheel Insan Party (VIP). The party has also suspended Benipatti MLA Bhavana Jha for anti-party activities. In a letter, All Indian Congress Committee (AICC) said, "Mt Shakeel Ahmed, ex-MP, has been suspended, with immediate effect, from the Congress party for contesting as an independent candidate from the Madhubani Lok Sabha constituency in Bihar against Party's decision. Along with this Ms Bhavana Jha, MLA, Benipatti has also been suspended from the Congress party for anti-party activities with regard to the ongoing general elections. The rebel leader has been suspended for 6 years for anti-party activities. The Mahagathbandhan (grand alliance) in Bihar has fielded Badrinath Purve, a former Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader who is the candidate of the VIP, while Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Hukum Dev Narayan Yadav's son Ashok Yadav is fielded from NDA.
