The constituency of Shahuwadi is one of the 288 Legislative Assembly (Vidhan Sabha) seats in Maharashtra Assembly. It is one of the 10 assembly constituencies that form an integral part of Kolhapur district, Maharashtra. As per the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) directives, the voting in Maharashtra Assembly Polls will be done in a single-phase manner, and hence the polling in Shahuwadi will take place on October 21, too.

Satyajit Babasaheb Patil, who hails from Shiv Sena, secured a narrow win with a slender margin against his rival Kore Vinay Vilasrao (of Jan Surajya Shakti) in the 2014 Maharashtra Assembly Elections by 388 votes. In 2009 Assembly Polls, it was Vinay Kore who had won the elections from Shahuwadi constituency. Patil will be fighting the 2019 polls as well on a Shiv Sena ticket, against Gautam Jagannath Kamble of the BSP among others.

The Election Commission announced the dates of Haryana and Maharashtra Assembly Elections 2019 on September 21. The voting in Maharashtra Assembly Elections 2019 will take place in a single-phase manner on October 21. The votes will be counted on October 24, and the results of 2019 Maharashtra Assembly Polls will be announced on the same day. The EC has also said that all the electoral procedures shall be completed before Diwali, i.e. October 28.

As per the EC guidelines, the authorities are directed to provide all the facilities to the specially-abled people and senior citizens for smooth conduct of polls. Also, one polling station in every Assembly constituency has to be women-exclusive only. Saying that, it means all the election staff, security and other personnel will be women only.

The current term of the Maharashtra government is slated to end on November 9. With only a few days remaining for voting, it will be interesting to see which alliance (NDA or UPA) is a step ahead of either. For other news and updates of Maharashtra Assembly Elections 2019, stay tuned to LatestLY.
