Priyanka Gandhi's Tweet on Gopal Kanda:

Chinmayanand, a former BJP minister, is also accused of sexually harassing a law student. Gopal Kanda, who was elected as an MLA from Sirsa, is accused of abetting the suicide of a young air hostess Geetika Sharma, who worked with his airline company, by harassing her and, according to her suicide note, "misusing her". The woman committed suicide in August 2012. Kanda was sent to Tihar Jail where he remained incarcerated from 2012 to 2014.

Kanda was a minister in the Congress government of Bhupinder Singh Hooda when the allegations erupted. He was forced to resign. At the time, the BJP held several protests against Kanda and demanded his resignation and arrest. He continues to face trial in the air hostess suicide case, which is now in the evidence stage in a trial court. Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Uma Bharti also urged the party leadership not to take his support.

In a series of tweets, Bharti said, "This is the same Gopal Kanda because of whom a girl and her mother committed suicide after not getting justice, the case is still pending in court, and this person is out on bail. Whether Gopal Kanda is innocent or guilty, the law will decide on the basis of evidence. However, winning this election does not acquit him of his crimes. There are many factors in winning an election."
