The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has fielded former union minister Rajiv Pratap Rudy from Saran Lok Sabha constituency. Meanwhile, the Mahagathbandhan's Rashtriya Janata Dal has given a ticket to Chandrika Rai from here. The last date of filing nominations for the seat was April 18. The scrutiny of nominations papers took place on April `20. Meanwhile, the last date of withdrawal of candidature was April 22. In 2014 elections also, BJP candidate Rudy had won from SaranLok Sabha Constituency defeating Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) candidate Rabri Devi with a margin of over 40,000 votes. In 2009 elections, RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav had won the seat.

The Election Commission of India on March 10 announced the dates for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The general elections will take place in seven phases between April 11 and May 19, and the results will be declared on May 23. Along with Lok Sabha Elections, voting will also take place in this phase for Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim and Odisha Assembly Elections 2019.
