Amid reports of massive job cuts due to the economic slowdown in India, Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Santosh K Gangwar on Sunday had claimed that there is no shortage of jobs in the country. He opined that the reason for job cuts is due to the lack of quality, which hinders companies from hiring people from North Indian.
New Delhi, September 15: Santosh Gangwar, Minister of Labour and Employment, clarified on his earlier remark that there’s “no lack of jobs” and that north Indians lack the job skills required by saying that his comment was made in a different context and that it was received wrongly. Gangwar said that when recruiters come to North India, they find very few people with the skillset required. The minister added that the government is trying to address the issue of skill deficiency so that the children can be trained as per job requirement. Speaking at an event, Gangwar said, "Desh mein rozgaar ki kami nahi hai. Humare Uttar Bharat mein jo recruitment karne aate hain is baat ka sawaal karte hain ki jis padd (position) ke liye hum rakh rahe hain uski quality ka vyakti humein kum milta hai. (There is no shortage of jobs in India. People coming to North India for recruitment ask that the position for which they seek people, possess less quality."
