Mumbai, April 1:  The District Election Officer issued a notice to Shiv Sena Member of Parliament (MP) Sanjay Raut for his editorial in Saamna in which he made reference to tampering of EVMs in Begusarai. The election officer asked him to reply by April 3. Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections 2019, Raut made a controversial remark against Communist Party of India (CPI) candidate Kanhaiya Kumar who is contesting from Bihar’s Begusarai. In the editorial in Shiv Sena’s mouthpiece, Saamna, Raut said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) should make sure that Kumar is not elected to the Lok Sabha “even at the cost of tempering EVMs.” The Shiv Sena MP also called the CPI candidate “a bottle of poison.” Lok Sabha Elections 2019 Schedule: Voting In 7 Phases From April 11 to May 19, Counting And Results On May 23; Check All Dates For General Elections.

The BJP has fielded union minister Giriraj Singh from Begusarai. The Lok Sabha constituency is going for elections in the fourth phase on April 29. Currently, it comprises of seven assembly seats  - Cheria Bariarpur, Bachhwara, Teghra, Matihani, Sahebpur Kamal, Begusarai and Bakhri. The seat is not reserved for any category and its constituency number is 24.
