Mumbai, October 3: The conflict in Mumbai Congress unit refuses to die down. Senior Congress party leader and former Mumbai Congress president Sanjay Nirupam tweeted his displeasure at the turn of events and ticket distribution for the Maharashtra Assembly Elections 2019. Nirupam on Thursday put out a strong tweet saying, "It seems Congress Party doesn’t want my services anymore" and said that being a senior leader, he deserves "respect in the party." Nirupam is miffed over one of his recommended candidates ignored by the party and not given the ticket for the 2019 assembly polls. "It seems Congress Party doesn’t want my services anymore. I had recommended just one name in Mumbai for Assembly election. Heard that even that has been rejected. As I had told the leadership earlier, in that case I will not participate in poll campaign. Replying to a tweet, Nirupam said that though he doesn't think of quitting the party as of now. However, he also warned that "the way leadership is behaving with me, it doesn’t seem far away."

Nirupam's outburst on Twitter comes days after Congress' candidate from Mumbai North and actress turned politician Urmila Matondkar quit the party citing lack of unity and "infighting" in the party unit. The Congress Mumbai unit has been plagued by internal party conflicts for past few years.

The Congress party has so far announced the names of 123 candidates, with 51 in the first list, 52 in the second and 20 names in the third list. The elections for the 288-member House in Maharashtra will be held on October 21 and results will be out on October 24.
