Sanjay Dutt to 'Remake' His Political Career? Actor to Contest 2019 Lok Sabha Elections From Ghaziabad Seat in UP, Says Report

Mumbai, March 16: Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt is all set to 'remake' his political career. The 'Khalnayak' and 'Munna Bhai' actor will contest the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections from Ghaziabad seat in Uttar Pradesh. Interestingly, the actor had once starred in a film titled Zila Ghaziabad. However, this is not the first time that Dutt is trying to don the hat of a politician. Sanjay Dutt, who is close to former Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh, had joined the Samajwadi Party and was even going to contest the 2009 Lok Sabha Elections from UP. However, Dutt pulled out at the last moment when the court refused to suspend his conviction in the 1993 Bombay bomb blast case. Dutt was to fight from the Lucknow seat as an SP Nominee then. Sanjay Dutt had also said that joining politics and the Samajwadi Party was a "big mistake." However, according to a News18 report, the SP-BSP combine could nominate Sanjay Dutt from one of the seats and the actor is said to be considering it as well.

Interestingly, last time when Sanjay Dutt campaigned for the 2009 Lok Sabha elections for Samajwadi Party (SP), he was in controversies for saying at a rally that he would like to give a "Jaadu ki Jhappi" to Mayawati. The SP and BSP who have now come together for the polls, were sworn enemies back then. Sanjay Dutt's sister Priya Dutt, who is a two time MP from Congress, will also be contesting the Lok Sabha Elections as Congress has nominated her from the Mumbai - North Central seat. Priya Dutt had lost the seat to Poonam Mahajan of BJP in the 2014 Lok Sabha Elections.
