Mumbai, March 24: Sangli Lok Sabha constituency is one of the 48 parliamentary seats in Maharashtra. Polling for Lok Sabha election in Sangli constituency was held on April 23 in the third phase of general polls. NCP's Udayanraje Pratapsinh Maharaj Bhonsle was elected as Member of Parliament from Sangli. Sanjay Patil of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is the sitting Member of Parliament (MP) from Sangli.
While the BJP has announced Patils' candidature, the Congress gave up on its one-time bastion, Sangli Lok Sabha constituency, to NCP. The NCP fielded Udayanraje Pratapsinh Maharaj Bhonsle. The process of filing nomination for Sangli Lok Sabha election began from March 28. The last day for nominations was April 4. Scrutiny was done on April 5 and the last date for the withdrawal of the nominations was April 8. The alliance of the BJP, Shiv Sena and Swabhiman Paksha together bagged 42 seats in Maharashtra in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. The Congress could win only two seats, while the NCP just four.
