Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti Alleges Harassment & Humiliation at Hubli Airport, BJP Files Complaint With Election Commission

Hubli, May 4: Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti, Minister of State for Food Processing Industries on Friday alleged that she was harassed and humiliated at Hubli Airport. Ahead of the upcoming elections in Karnataka, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the state filed a complaint with Election Commission regarding the matter. The complaint also states that 'Yadgir Deputy Commissioner deliberately did not grant her permission for helicopter landing.'

The Election Commission (EC) of India in March announced the schedule and dates for Karnataka Assembly Elections 2018. Karnataka will go to poll on May 12, 2018 while the counting of the votes will be done on 15 May, 2018. It must be noted that the polling will be held in a single phase.

The assembly elections have become a do or die situation for the Congress which is in power in the state. At present, Karnataka is under the leadership he Congress government headed by chief minister Siddaramaiah.

Both the parties – The Congress and the BJP is leaving no stone unturned to woo voters in the state. After the recent loss in Gorakhpur and Phulpur bypolls in Uttar Pradesh, the Bhartiya Janata Party will be eager to win in Karnataka. Congress is also going all out to retain one of the few bigger states that it is in power currently.

Earlier on Friday, BN Vijayakumar, a sitting member of legislative assembly or MLA of the Bharatiya Janata Party died of a massive heart attack at a hospital in Bengaluru. Vijayakumar, a candidate for the upcoming assembly election in the state on May 12, collapsed during an election rally in Bengaluru's Jayanagar constituency last night. He was admitted to the government-run Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology late last night. "Doctors attended to him till around 1 am this morning, but efforts to resuscitate him failed," state BJP spokesperson S Prakash told news agency PTI.
