Lucknow, January 20: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator Sadhana Singh on Sunday apologised for making derogatory remarks against for Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati. In a statement, Sadhna Singh said her intention was not to disrespect anyone. Her apology came hours after the National Commission for Women said it would issue a notice to her "eunuch" remark.

"I had no intentions of disrespecting anyone, I express regret if someone was hurt by my words," Sadhna Singh, an MLA from Mughalsarai in Uttar Pradesh's Chadauli district, said. She added that she wanted to recall how the BJP helped Mayawati in the infamous '1995 Lucknow guest house incident'. Addressing a rally, Sadhna Singh said Mayawati is worse than a transgender.

"I don't think Uttar Pradesh's former Chief Minister is a woman or a man. She doesn't understand the concept of dignity. Draupadi was a victim of sexual misconduct. She vowed to get revenge. That was a self-respecting woman. Look at this woman. Everything was looted from her, despite which she sold all her dignity to get power," the BJP MLA said. Mayawati Promotes SP-BSP Alliance on Her 63rd Birthday, Asks Workers to Forget Past Differences.

"I take this opportunity to condemn Mayawati, who calls herself a woman. She is a shame on the entire womankind. BJP leaders saved her dignity, and she sold it for the sake of her comfort and power. Women from the entire country condemn her," she added. She was referring to the 1995 infamous guest house scandal when Mayawati was allegedly assaulted by workers of the Samajwadi Party.

It is widely believed that then BJP MLA Brahm Dutt Dwivedi stepped into the room and saved Mayawati from the ire of SP workers. Reacting to Sadhna Singh's remarks, BSP leader Satish Chandra Misra said BJP leaders have lost their mental balance since the BSP and SP decided to contest the 2019 Lok Sabha elections together.
