Prayagraj, January 31: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat on Thursday raised questions on the Supreme Court’s judgment stating that the apex decision making body should have considered the sentiments of Hindus, while making observations on Sabarimala temple row. He made the comments during his speech at the Dharma Sansad in Prayagraj.

Addressing the gathering, he said, as quoted by ANI, “Uski apni parampara rehti hai, lekin desh bhar ke croron Hinduon ki bhawanao ka samman isse aahaat hoga, yeh vichar court ne kiya nahi. (That (Sabarimala Temple) has its traditions, but the sentiments of crores of Hindu people will be hurt. The Court did not consider this).” Kanakadurga, Woman Who Entered Sabarimala Temple, Thrown Out of House by In-Laws.

Adding more, RSS chief even targeted the Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan for forcefully enacting the Supreme Court’s September 2018 order. Bhagwat also took a swipe at the Kerala CM for providing escort service for two Sri Lankan women devotees to enter the inner sanctum of the Lord Ayyappa temple.

He said, “Court ne kaha mahila agar parvesh chahti hai to karne dena chaiye, agar kisiko roka jata hai to usko suraksha dekar jahan se sab darshan karte hain vahan se le jana chaiye. Lekin koi jana nahi chah raha hai isliye SriLanka se lakar, peeche ke darwaze se ghusaya ja raha hai. (The Court said if a woman wants to enter the temple she should be allowed. If someone is being stopped, she should be provided security and be allowed for darshan from the place where everyone else does. Since no one wants to go, people from Sri Lanka were brought and allowed entry from the back door).

The above comments of the RSS chief are in contradiction of the Supreme Court order, which had made the observation stating the women – between the age of 10 and 49 years – be allowed to visit the holy shrine of Lord Ayyappa in Sabarimala Temple in Kerala. After the SC order, the Kerala government gave security to the women devotees amid protest from several Hindutva outfits.
