Bengaluru, May 21: Roshan Baig, Congress’ Karnataka MLA today slammed the party leadership in the state after he received a show cause notice for asking Muslims to join hands with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Responding to the notice, Baig said he would not even bother to read the notice. The Congress MLA stated, “I've received the show-cause notice sent to me by the KPCC. I'm not even going to bother to read it because it's clearly sent by the orders of the same people whose incompetencies were highlighted by me.”
Earlier in the day, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) General Secretary Venkatrao Y Ghorpade sent the notice to Baig over his statement against AICC General Secretary KC Venugopal, KPCC President Dinesh Gundu Rao and former Chief Minister of the state Siddaramaiah. Baig on Monday stirred controversy when during a gathering in Bengaluru, he said that the minorities must compromise with the situation and "join hands" with the BJP is need arises. "Well if NDA is coming back to power, I humbly appeal to Muslim brothers to learn to compromise with the situation," he stated. Asked whom would he blame for the present condition of the Muslims in Karnataka, Baig pointed fingers at KPCC President Dinesh Gundu Rao for conducting "flop poll campaign" and also attacked CLP leaders including Siddaramaiah for the same. According to various exit polls by media houses, the BJP would secure 21-23 seats in the state, while the Congress is predicted to win only on 5-7 seats. The state went to polls in the second and the third phase on April 18 and 23 respectively. The counting of votes will take place on May 23.
