Jammu, June 20: Amid the ongoing row over Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) and Congress playing politics over Rohit Vemula's death, a BJP MLC has claimed that the money was offered to the family on the terms of getting converted into Islam.
BJP MLC N Ramchander Rao was quoted by ANI on Monday saying, "We have got the information that Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) has given 15 lakh to Rohith Vemula's family and on these terms, his brother was to be converted into Islam".

Radhika Vemula, deceased Rohith Vemula's mother on Wednesday claimed that the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) sent the family two cheques of Rs 2.5 lakh out of which one has bounced. "We informed them & they said they will directly provide us money so that we can buy a house", she added.
Earlier in the day, Railways and Coal Minister Piyush Goyal slammed the Opposition for 'petty politics' over Vemula's death. Goyal said that the IUML made fake promises to provide Rs 20 lakh to Vemula's family and asked them to "address their rallies and misrepresent the unfortunate incident and then not completed that promise".
Rohith Vemula, a University of Hyderabad research scholar had hanged himself in his hostel room on January 17, 2016. Soon after his death two years back, his mother Radhika Vemula was approached by the Indian Union Muslim League and promised Rs 20 lakh.
