Rohingya Refugees in Jammu & Kashmir Not Beneficiaries Under CAA, to be Deported: MoS Jitendra Singh

New Delhi, January 3: Union minister Dr Jitendra Singh has made the government's stand clear on the Rohingyas in Jammu and Kashmir. The union minister said that Rohingyas in Jammu and Kashmir will be deported as they are not shielded under the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). Singh said that the immediate implication of the act would be in relation to Rohingyas living in Jammu and Kashmir. The Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) grants citizenship to Hindu, Sikh, Jain, Parsi, Buddhist, and Christian refugees from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh who came to India on or before December 31, 2014. The Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) was passed in the Lok Sabha on December 9 and in the Rajya Sabha on December 11, 2019. President of India, Ram Nath Kovind, gave his assent to the bill and it subsequently became the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
