New Delhi, January 3: Union minister Dr Jitendra Singh has made the government's stand clear on the Rohingyas in Jammu and Kashmir. The union minister said that Rohingyas in Jammu and Kashmir will be deported as they are not shielded under the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). Singh reiterated government's stand on the issue of Rohingyas and said that they won't be able to obtain citizenship by "any means", reported English daily Hindustan Times. Singh said that the immediate implication of the act would be in relation to Rohingyas living in Jammu and Kashmir. Singh was quoted saying by the report that the sizable population of the Rohingyas residing in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir will have to go. Jitendra Singh making his stand clear on the Rohingyas in Jammu and Kashmir is consistent with the BJP led government in Centre. The Union Government has time and again made its stand clear that it will not consider Rohingya refugees despite repeated demands from various sections.
The Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) grants citizenship to Hindu, Sikh, Jain, Parsi, Buddhist, and Christian refugees from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh who came to India on or before December 31, 2014. The Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) was passed in the Lok Sabha on December 9 and in the Rajya Sabha on December 11, 2019. President of India, Ram Nath Kovind, gave his assent to the bill and it subsequently became the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
