Jaipur, January 3: The newly-elected Congress government in Rajasthan on Wednesday reversed another order issued during the previous BJP regime. The state government, led by chief minister Ashok Gehlot, issued a circular directing all the departments, boards, corporations and self-governance organisations to remove the picture of Deendayal Upadhyaya as a logo from their letter pads.

The decision to remove the picture of Deendayal Upadhyaya, an RSS ideologue and a co-founder of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), from the letter pads was taken in the first cabinet meeting. The state printing and stationery department issued the orders to that effect on Wednesday. Rajasthan Government Will Examine Cases Against Dalits, Mayawati’s Demand Is ‘Natural’: Ashok Gehlot.

In compliance with the decision of the cabinet, he further ordered to withdraw the circular, issued on December 11, 2017, in which the previous BJP government led by Vasundhara Raje had issued the directions to insert the picture of Upadhyay in the letter pads.

The Congress government has said it would review all the decisions taken by the previous government in the last six months. It has eliminated the minimum educational qualification criteria for Panchayati Raj elections and is set to make major changes in school textbooks.

On the social security front, the government increased the amount of pension paid to widows and elderly and disabled persons. The Congress had protested against the halting of pensions for eligible beneficiaries during the BJP's rule.
