In the 2014 Lok Sabha Elections, Nepal Singh of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won this Lok Sabha seat. Naseer Ahmad Khan of the Samajwadi Party was at the second spot and Nawab Kazim Ali Khan of the Indian National Congress (INC) ended up at the third place from the seat. Rampur was already in news after Azam Khan made a controversial comment against Jaya Prada. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had given ticket to Jaya Prada, who recently joined the party. Jaya Prada has previously been an MP from Rampur seat, when she was a part of the Samajwadi Party (SP). The Samajwadi Party (SP) had fielded Azam Khan from this constituency. Khan has been an MLA from the seat for a total of nine terms.
