New Delhi, August 25: A political row has erupted over reports that Delhi's iconic Ramlila Maidan may be renamed after late former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The Bharatiya Janata Party has called it a conspiracy and said that Ramlila Maidan can never be renamed. The clarification came from Delhi BJP after Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal hit out at them over reports of the change of name of Ramlila Maidan.
"Some people are trying to spread lies. We worship Lord Ram and hence, there is no question of changing the name of Ramlila Maidan," said Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari in a video posted on Twitter.

This came after Kejriwal took a dig at the BJP on Twitter, saying, "You won't get votes by renaming Ramlila Maidan or other places after Atal ji. BJP should change the name of their Prime Minister since they won't get votes in his name."
Reports had earlier said that at least 6-7 members of the North Delhi Municipal Corporation had submitted the proposal to rename Ramlila Maidan and a discussion on the same will take place on August 30.
Ramlila Maidan is an iconic ground in the national capital and has been known for some of the biggest movements that the country has seen.
