The counting of votes for Ramgarh assembly seat in Rajasthan’s Alwar district will begin at 8 am today. The by-poll was held on January 29. The election to the seat was withheld during the assembly elections in the state on December 7 following the death of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) candidate Laxman Singh.
Alwar, January 31: The counting of votes for Ramgarh assembly bypoll 2019 in Rajasthan’s Alwar district will begin at 8 am today. The by-poll was held on January 29. The election to the seat was withheld during the assembly elections in the state on December 7 following the death of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) candidate Laxman Singh. The BSP has fielded former Union Minister Natwar Singh’s son Jagat Singh, while Shafia Zubair is the Congress candidate. There are 20 candidates in the fray.
Around 78.45 percent voter turnout was recorded in polling. A total of 278 voting centres were set up. There are total 2,35,625 voters in the area. Out of the total voters, 1,10,947 voters are females while 1,46,613 are males. Around 2,500 policemen and paramilitary personnel were deputed here to avert any untoward incident. The Election Commission will declare the result on the same day. The polling was mainly peaceful in the area.
In the recently concluded assembly elections, the Congress came back to power after five years by defeating Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The Congress emerged as the single-largest party in Rajasthan with 99 seats, while the BJP managed to bag 73 seats in the assembly elections.
