New Delhi, July 31: Despite lacking a majority in the Upper House of the Parliament, the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Union government succeeded in passing the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill, 2019 by 99 votes in favour and 84 against. Commenting on the absent leaders, senior BJP leader Ram Madhav took a jibe at the opposition stating that what happened in Parliament should happen for the welfare of the bills to be passed.

Mocking on the absentee parliamentarians during crucial voting for the Triple Talaq Bill, Madhav said, as quoted by the ANI, "Kal Parliament mein jis tarah kuch logon ne absent hokar us kanoon (Muslim Women Protection of Rights on Marriage Bill,2019)ko samarthan diya hum dhanyawad dete hain. (Yesterday the way few parliamentarians helped passing Muslim Women Protection of Rights on Marriage Bill, 2019, we thank them for that)."
