Lucknow, September 24: Samajwadi Party leader Ram Gopal Yadav on Tuesday slammed the Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government for registering 86 cases against Rampur Lok Sabha parliamentarian Azam Khan ahead of Assembly by-elections in the state. Yadav even sought the transfer of Rampur District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police for fair polls in the state.
Speaking with media after meeting the Election Commissioner, Ram Gopal Yadav said, "I'd come here (EC) with the demand for immediate transfer of Rampur's DM & SP. The manner in which cases are being registered against Azam Khan, his family, associates and friends, it never happened before in India, not even in the matter of Veerappan and other dacoits." Azam Khan Booked for Stealing Goats After Buffalo and Books Theft Case.
Adding on, he said, "Eighty-six cases have been registered so far. Never was a case registered earlier, he was not a criminal then, now he is. If these two (Rampur DM and SP) continue, then there will not be fair elections, our supporters will not be allowed to cast their votes."
The new development comes just days ahead of the by-elections in Uttar Pradesh where 11 constituencies are going for polls on October 21. The results would be announced on October 24. The Assembly seats going for elections in Uttar Pradesh include Jalalpur, Pratapgarh, Rampur, Lucknow Cantonment, Gangoh, Manikpur, Balha (SC), Iglas (SC), Zaidpur (SC), Govindnagar and Ghosi.
