The three legislations are the Constitution (124th Amendment) Bill, 2019, Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2016 and Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill, 2017. If passed, Constitution (124th Amendment) Bill, 2019 will pave way for 10 per cent quota for economically weaker sections of upper castes in government service and higher educational institutions. The Bill was passed by Lok Sabha yesterday with 323 members voting in its favour and only three voting against it. The Citizenship Amendment Bill will grant citizenship to minority communities from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Pakistan after six years of residence in India. The Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill, 2018, popularly known as Triple Talaq Bill, criminalises the practice of instant triple talaq with a provision of 3 years' imprisonment to the husband. The Triple Talaq Bill was passed in the Lok Sabha on December 27 last year with 245 votes in favour and 11 against the Bill.
