New Delhi, December 22: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Alka Lamba on Saturday confirmed that she is not resigning from the party. This comes hours after Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia brushed aside reports that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP had sought Lamba's resignation as she denied support to resolution in the Assembly that called for revoking late PM Rajiv Gandhi's Bharat Ratna over the 1984 riots. “No resignation has been sought and from no one, all these are rumours,” Sisodia told reporters. Alka Lamba Sacked From AAP For Opposing Delhi Assembly Resolution on Rajiv Gandhi: Report.

Meanwhile, the AAP MLA Jarnail Singh also clarified that the resolution passed in Delhi Assembly on Friday did not include the demand to strip former Prime Minister and Congress leader Rajiv Gandhi of the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian award. “It was my feeling and I said it. Technically, it wasn’t in the notice,” Singh was quoted as saying by news agency ANIAAP Seeks Alka Lamba's Resignation After Differences over Resolution to Revoke Rajiv Gandhi's Bharat Ratna.

The explanation from both the leader comes out after Lamba, who represents Chandni Chowk assembly constituency, tweeted, "The Delhi Assembly today adopted a resolution, which demanded that Bharat Ratna awarded to former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi be withdrawn. I was asked to support the resolution in my speech, which was unacceptable for me. I walked out from the House. I am ready to face any punishment."

Meanwhile, other party leader has distanced themselves from the controversy and were not available for comment.
