Jaipur, October 9: The Election Commission of India (ECI) announced the dates for assembly elections in five states: Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Telangana, and Mizoram today, i.e. on Monday, October 9. The statement included information on the election process dates for all five states, including nomination filing, polling days, and result declaration. Previously, on Friday, the Election Commission convened a meeting of observers to devise a plan for conducting the elections smoothly. The EC's police, general and spending observers met to simplify tactics to guarantee Model Code of Conduct implementation and that money does not impact the level playing field.

In Rajasthan, where the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party will face off on November 23, anti-incumbency happens to be a major element in the polls. Rajasthan Assembly Election 2023: BJP Issues First List, Seven MPs Among 41 Candidates; Polling To Take Place on November 23.

The state has alternated between the Congress and the BJP since 1993, when the BJP came to power following a period of President's rule. In the 2018 Assembly elections, Congress won 100 seats. The Rashtriya Loktantrik Party (RLP) received three seats, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Bhartiya Tribal Party (BTP) each received two, while there were 13 independent candidates.

In the last assembly election, the BJP received 38.77% of the vote, while the BSP received 4.03% and the RLP received 2.40%. CPM received 1.22% of the vote, BTP received 0.72%, and RLD received 0.33% of the vote. The BJP also has the benefit of being in the Centre, which allows it to gather voters on its "double-engine" capabilities, which promises more growth if the governments in Delhi and the state are led by the same party. But, for months, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has been hard at work, fighting the predicted anti-incumbency with a slew of social projects - and going all out to publicise them as part of his vision for the state.
