Jaipur, December 11: Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje submitted her resignation to the Governor, while conceding defeat in the assembly elections. The BJP veteran, who has served as the CM for two 5-year terms, said the electorate has assigned her the charge to effectively play the role of an Opposition.
"It will be our duty to be the voice of the people inside and outside the legislative assembly. We wish the new government luck. As per updates released by the Election Commission so far, the Congress' tally is hovering around the halfway majority mark -- 100 seats. While the party has been declared winner from 85 constituencies, it is leading in another 14 seats. Congress' ally Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) has been declared winner from 1 constituency.
In the Congress camp, a passive race is reportedly underway to secure the CM chair. The two contenders for the coveted post are Ashok Gehlot, the 67-year-old former 2-time CM, and Sachin Pilot, the 41-year-old former Union Minister, who is widely credited for the party's resurgence in Rajasthan in the last 4 years.
