Jaipur, December 3: With just a few days left for Rajasthan assembly elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi intensified his attacks on Congress and its president Rahul Gandhi. Addressing an election rally on Monday, PM Modi hit back at Rahul Gandhi who said that the prime minister had no knowledge about Hinduism, with calling the Congress a university of lies.
"Congress has become a university of lies. Once you join Congress, you begin your PhD in lies. The person who spreads more lies gets a higher position," PM Modi said in Jodhpur. Taking on Rahul Gandhi, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader said the Congress chief behaves like a custodian of Hinduism. "If I have knowledge of Hinduism or not, should it be an election issue?" PM Modi asked.
"Rajasthan will cast votes on the issues of electricity, roads and clean drinking water and not on Modi's knowledge of Hinduism," the prime minister said. He also said the Congress-led UPA government had denied the existence of Lord Ram and Jawaharlal Nehru had opposed the construction of Somnath temple. During an interaction with the business community and professionals in Udaipur on Saturday, Rahul Gandhi attacked PM Modi and asked what kind of a Hindu he is that he does not understand the foundations of Hinduism. "It is fascinating for me that what is the essence of Hinduism. You please study Hinduism. What does Gita say? It says that Knowledge is with everybody. Knowledge is all around you. Our Prime Minister says that I am a Hindu but he does not understand the foundation of Hinduism. What kind of Hindu he is? That is the contradiction," Gandhi said.
Rajasthan will go to polls on December 7, while the results will be announced on December 11.
