Rajasthan Assembly Elections 2018: Key Candidates to Watch Out For
With just days remaining for the Rajasthan Assembly Elections 2018, here are key candidates contesting the polls.
Jaipur, November 29: Assembly elections in Rajasthan are just days away and all the political parties have announced their candidates for the constituencies. Even the poll manifestos are in public domain. Lets look at the key candidates for the upcoming polls to who can play a major role in the polls. Key candidates for the Rajasthan Elections:
1: Vasundhara Raje: The incumbent Chief Minister of Rajasthan has been in office since 2003, who preceded senior Congress leader Ashok Gehlot. A scion of the Scindia family and sister of late Congress leader Madhavrao Scindia is contesting from Jharlapatan constituency, from where she has been representing Bharatiya Janata Party since 2003. She is graduate in economics and political science from Sophia College in Mumbai. Raje has declared her assets to be over Rs 3 crore and has no criminal cases against her name.
2: Sachin Pilot: Considered as close aide of Congress president Rahul Gandhi, Sachin Pilot is one of the most powerful leaders in Rajasthan. He is the son of former Union minister Rajesh Pilot and represents Gujjar community. Currently, Pilot is the Pradesh Congress Committee chief of the state and has filed nomination from Tonk constituency. He holds a degree of MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and for the elections, he has declared an asset of over Rs 5 crore. There are no criminal cases against him too.
3: Ashok Gehlot: Former chief minister of Rajasthan (1998-2003) is a national general secretary of the Congress party, who represents Sardarpura constituency. Gehlot holds post-graduate degrees in law and economics and is very a popular face in the state. The senior Congress leader has declared assets of Rs 6.44 crores and is representing the party from Sardarpura seat again in 2018. As per to the declaration, there are no criminal cases against this leader too.
4: Gulab Chand Kataria: The BJP leader is the incumbent Home Minister of Rajasthan and is winning from the Udaipur constituency for last three elections. This time too he has filed nomination from the same constituency. Kataria has a degree in law, but is accused in criminal case. He has declared his assets for 2013 as Rs 2.41 crore, but the recent data is not available.
5: Manvendra Singh: Son of former union Minister Jaswant Singh, Manvendra switched his clan to Congress after BJP did not gave him ticket to contest elections. Manvendra, a former soldier in Indian Army who fought for the country during Kargil war, is a graduate from Hampshire College, Amherst, Massachusetts and the School of Oriental and African Studies, London. Manvendra owns an asset of over 2.2 crores (2013 data) and has no criminal case against his name. He is challenging CM Vasundhara Raje from Jhalrapatan seat.
The Assembly Elections in the state will take place on December 7 and the results will be announced on December 11, along with the fate of four poll-bound states.
