Rajasthan and Telangana are the final set of states which went to polls in this round of the elections. In the former, a total of 199 seats of the legislative assembly were contested -- polls in 1 constituency was deferred due to the death one of the candidates. The primarily battle was wedged between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the opposition Congress.

Ahead of the polls, the Congress was given a clear edge by the pollsters, predicting the party to oust the Vasundhara Raje-led government in the state. The average of major opinion polls predicted 120-140 seats for the Congress, whereas, the BJP was predicted to be restricted between 50-70 seats.

Notably, the saffron party moved into the elections projecting its incumbent CM Vasundhara Raje as the chief ministerial candidate. The Congress, however, had refrained to announced its CM nominee ahead of the polls -- which experts attribute to the fear of in-fighting within its state unit.
