Raipur, March 23: BJP candidate Gomtee Sai was elected as Member of Parliament from Raigarh parliamentary seat in Chhattisgarh. Polling for Raigarh Lok Sabha seat election in Chhattisgarh was held on April 23 in the third phase of general elections. Raigarh constituency is one of the 11 constituencies in the state of Chhattisgarh. The seat is currently held by Vishnu Deo Sai of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Gomtee Sai will face a tough fight from Congress candidate Laljit Singh Rathia. The process of filing nomination for Raigarh election began from March 28. The last day for nominations was April 4. Scrutiny was done on April 5 and the last date for the withdrawal of the nominations was April 8. As mentioned above, polling will be held on April 23 and results will be declared on May 23. In 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP registered a thumping victory winning 10 out of 11 seats, whereas the Congress could bag just one. However, the Congress made a comeback in the 2018 Assembly election winning 68 out of 90 seats. Lok Sabha elections will begin on April 11 and will be held over seven phases across the country followed by counting of votes on May 23.
