Shah Faesal, who created history by becoming the first Kashmiri to top the coveted Civil Services Examinations in 2010, and was feted by one and all, is under fire now for his controversial tweet and looks isolated by his own department. But the IAS officer has received support from Congress President Rahul Gandhi, who wrote him a letter expressing solidarity with Faesal.
Shah Faesal, the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) Officer of Jammu and Kashmir cadre is facing disciplinary action for voicing his views on social media.
Gandhi, in his letter, said to Faesal: "I write to you in solidarity against the Jammu and Kashmir government's decision to initiate an inquiry for expressing your opinion on the rising incidents of rape in India. You deserve to be appreciated for identifying and courageously highlighting the issues that plague India. We stand by you in letter and spirit."
A disciplinary action has been initiated against the officer by the Jammu and Kashmir government, for expressing his views on the growing rape incidents in the country on social media platform.
The officer, in a tweet on April 21, had written in his tweet that “Patriarchy+Population+Illiteracy+Alcohol+Porn+Technology+Anarchy = Rapistan!”

The officer is presently doing a mid-career course in Harvard University. Shah Faesal, at the time of tweeting, would surely not have thought that his tweet would become a topic of contention in national politics. Faesal has not reacted on the letter of support received by Congress President Rahul Gandhi. (With Agency Inputs)
