New Delhi, June 28: Congress President Rahul Gandhi, who is adamant on resigning, wants party's chiefs of states or those who were in-charge to take responsibility for the Lok Sabha debacle, a report said. Rahul Gandhi, who took full responsibility for the party's defeat in the Lok Sabha elections, is reportedly unhappy with those leaders under whose watch the party fared badly but they didn't own up responsibility.
The Congress has drawn a blank in 18 states and Union Territories — an indicator of its decimation in the Lok Sabha polls. Rahul Gandhi expressed his discontent during a meeting with leaders from Haryana state coordination committee who urged him to continue to lead the party and withdraw his resignation. Rahul met around 15 leaders of the Haryana Congress along with party's general secretary and Haryana in-charge Ghulam Nabi Azad to discuss the party's preparations and strategy for the forthcoming Assembly elections. During the meeting, he also indicated that he won't withdraw his resignation. Some leaders, who are said to be loyal to former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, sought for change in state leadership.
Rahul told them he cannot decide on the state president as he has resigned as Congress president, reported The Indian Express. “He told us he can sit with us and help us…but he was clearly not in a mood to decide on leadership change in Haryana,” a Haryana Congress leader was quoted as saying. The Congress has been completely routed in Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Dadar and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Lakshadweep, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Delhi, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tripura and Uttarakhand.
Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Raj Babbar and Odisha Congress president Niranjan Patnaik have announced their resignation in the wake of the party’s electoral debacle in their respective states.
