Gandhi's sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, his deputy Sachin Pilot and communication wing in-charge Randeep Surjewala had already reached at his house by the time this report was published.
Gandhi first submitted his resignation at the CWC meeting on Saturday, squarely taking responsibility of the humiliation suffered by the party in Lok Sabha elections 2019.
The Committee, however, unanimously turned down his resignation and asked him to continue as the chief. On Monday, party veterans Ahmed Patel and KC Venugopal met Gandhi for "routine administrative work". Reports, however, claimed that Patel and Venugopal reached out to the Congress president to convince him to retract his decision.
According to another senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, Gandhi is insisting on his resignation as he has taken the loss "personally". The defeat in Lok Sabha polls has been taken up by him right at the "chin", the Thiruvananthapuram MP told a news channel.
