Wardha, October 2: Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday blew the bugle for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, urging people to trust his party when they go to vote. Addressing the 'Gandhi Sankalp Rally' after a Congress Working Committee meeting, Rahul Gandhi said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has betrayed people of the country.

"You tried Modiji (gave a chance to him). The vehicle (the Modi government) failed, got punctured, its engine exploded, it did not work. He broke your trust...now you trust the Congress and the ideology of Mahatma Gandhi to take India forward. We have done it in 2009; we can do it again," the Congress chief said. Gandhi Jayanti 2018: Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi Wash Their Plates After Lunch in Sevagram Ashram, Watch Video.

"Gandhiji insisted on (always) speaking the truth...I want to ask you, when Modiji made the promise of depositing Rs 15 lakh in the account of every person, was he speaking the truth or did he lie?" he asked the crowd. Gandhi accused the Prime Minister of striking a shady deal for the purchase of Rafale fighter jets only to benefit what he called Modi's "bankrupt" crony.

"When I asked Modiji about the Rafale deal (in Parliament), Modiji avoided eye contact. He would look here and there, up and down. But Modiji could not speak by looking the nation in the eye, because he was lying," the Congress chief alleged.

Attacking the government over rising fuel prices, Rahul Gandhi said: "The money paid by you (people) is going into the pockets of only a few richest people in India. This is the reality of India. The Congress is a party of the farmers, the weak and the small traders." He also accused Modi of helping his cronies convert their black money into white following the November 2016 demonetisation.
