Rahul Gandhi Scores 6 Million Followers on Twitter: What is Reason Behind New-Found Popularity of Indian Politician?
Rahul Gandhi- a three-time member of Parliament has managed to amass over a million new followers by being active on social media with his prompt responses.
Mumbai, March 1: Congress President Rahul Gandhi has upped his social media game this time. The 47-year old politician has garnered 6.1 million followers on Twitter in the last few months. For years now, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been among the world's most followed politicians on micro-blogging site Twitter but Gandhi is leaving no stone unturned to lure followers.

The sudden rise in fan following can be attributed to his prompt tweets and responses. Gandhi is now making social media as his new and most authentic voice, and Twitterati is making a note of all this!!
A quick look at Rahul Gandhi’s official Twitter account @OfficeOfRG shows that he has been quite active these months, which is attracting the youth. Ever since the BJP came to power with a landslide victory in 2014, Modi and the party have dominated the social media with their interaction with common man.
If we were to compare Prime Minister and Rahul Gandhi in terms of fan following on Twitter, Modi joined the micro-blogging site in 2009, while Rahul Gandhi joined Twitter in 2015. It must be noted that there is a difference of six years between both the leaders joining Twitter. In these years, the Prime Minister has garnered 40.7 million followers, while Rahul Gandhi has made it up to 6.1 million.
In the last week, Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan followed some senior Congress leaders on Twitter. This triggered speculation over his sudden interest in the party. After following Congress president Rahul Gandhi and the party’s official Twitter handle, he also followed senior leaders P Chidambaram, Kapil Sibal, Ahmed Patel, Ashok Gehlot, Ajay Maken, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Sachin Pilot and CP Joshi from this month.
Bachchan, who was once close to the Nehru-Gandhi family and a friend of Rajiv Gandhi, is currently the brand ambassador of Gujarat and has over 33.1 million followers on Twitter and follows only 1,689 people. The superstar also started following party leaders Manish Tewari, Shakeel Ahmed, Sanjay Nirupam, Randeep Surjewala Priyanka Chaturvedi and Sanjay Jha on Twitter, which has taken the party by surprise.
