Karnataka, May 8: Congress President Rahul Gandhi, while talking to the eminent citizens and reporters in Bengaluru, during the election campaigning in Karnataka, has said that he will consider becoming the Prime Minister of India if the Congress party wins the general elections in 2019 and emerges as the single largest party. This is the first time that the Congress President has ever staked claim at the prime minister's seat. However, the fortunes of Congress Party and Rahul Gandhi largely depends on the result of Karnataka assembly elections. The state of Karnataka goes to election on May 12 and the result will be declared on May 15.

On Monday, accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government of looting the people in the name of fuel hike, Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Monday led a protest in Kolar. He also took a bicycle ride and gave a speech standing on a bullock cart as symbolic protest ahead of the Karnataka Assembly Elections 2018. Rahul accused the BJP Government of collecting Rs ten lakh crore in taxes on petrol, LPG and diesel wrongfully. The Congress President also said that the Central government under BJP was not passing on the benefit of the falling international crude prices to common people.

The reactions on Rahul Gandhi's statement concerning the Prime Minister's post has already started generating comments. It will be interesting to see how the UPA member parties react to Rahul Gandhi's answer to the question of becoming prime minister of India.
