New Delhi, March 14: A day after China blocked a proposal at the United Nations to enlist Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Masood Azhar as a 'global terrorist', Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Thursday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scared of Chinese President Xi Jinping. Calling PM Modi 'weak' for 'bowing to Xi Jinping', Rahul Gandhi, in a tweet, said PM Modi never utters a word when 'China acts against India'.

"Weak Modi is scared of Xi. Not a word comes out of his mouth when China acts against India. NoMo’s China Diplomacy: 1. Swing with Xi in Gujarat 2. Hug Xi in Delhi 3. Bow to Xi in China," Gandhi tweeted. Hitting back at the Congress leader, the Bharatiya Janata Party blamed Jawaharlal Nehru, India's first prime minister and Rahul Gandhi's great grandfather for the situation. Hand Over Masood Azhar if You Are So Generous, Sushma Swaraj Tells Imran Khan.

"China wouldn't be in UNSC had your great grandfather not 'gifted' it to them at India’s cost. India is undoing all mistakes of your family. Be assured that India will win the fight against terror. Leave it to PM Modi while you keep cosying up with the Chinese envoys secretly (sic)," the BJP said.

Rahul Gandhi's tweet:

After the Pulwama suicide car-bombing by the JeM that killed more than 40 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) troopers on February 14, France spearheaded a renewed effort with British and the US backing to put sanctions on Azhar. However, China blocked the move to designate Azhar as a global terrorist. The proposal was a fourth such bid at the UN in the last 10 years to list Azhar as a global terrorist.

China has placed Azhar under its protection and vetoed moves to declare him a global terrorist that would subject him to UN sanctions. After China shielded Azhar again, India on Wednesday said it was disappointed at the outcome. Here’s How China Blocked the Listing of Masood Azhar at the UNSC.

India's Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), without naming China, said India will continue to pursue all available avenues to ensure that leaders of terror groups involved in heinous attacks on Indian citizens are brought to justice. "We are disappointed by this outcome. This has prevented action by the international community to designate the leader of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), a proscribed and active terrorist organisation which has claimed responsibility for the terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir on February 14," the MEA said.
