New Delhi, July 6: Congress President Rahul Gandhi and his much anticipated and speculated marriage is back in the news, this time thanks to a Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MP. JC Diwakar Reddy, an MP of the TDP has said that he had suggested Sonia Gandhi to get Rahul Gandhi to a "good Brahmin girl" as the Congress chief "needed the support of Uttar Pradesh brahmins".

"When I was in Congress I suggested to Sonia Gandhi that Rahul needs support of UP Brahmins. Brahmin community is ruling in UP. That is why I suggested to her that get Rahul married to a good Brahmin girl. But Sonia Gandhi didn’t listen to me," Reddy was quoted as saying by ANI.

Rahul Gandhi's marriage had made news earlier this year too when rumours were circulated on the social media of the Congress President getting married to party MLA from Raebareli Aditi Singh. These rumours started circulating ahead of the Karnataka Assembly elections 2018. Both Singh and Gandhi had refuted rumours calling them a poll plank by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Singh had said that such rumours were untrue and "mischievous", adding that her relation with Rahul Gandhi was that of a sibling. "I am upset with the kind of rumours on social media about my marriage with Rahul Gandhi ji. He is my 'rakhi brother'. I appeal the rumour mongers to refrain from such defamatory things," the 29-year-old had said while speaking to a news channel.
