Wayanad, April 4: With the Congress president Rahul Gandhi filing his nomination from Wayanad seat, surprising details are coming to light. According to the particulars furnished by the Congress chief in the affidavit, his assets have grown from Rs 9.4 crore to Rs 15.88 crore over the last five years. The affidavit also shows that Gandhi does not own a car and has liabilities of around Rs 72 lakh. Adding on, the affidavit showed his cash in hand amount is Rs. 40,000.
In the affidavit filed by the Congress chief in the office of the district collectorate in Kalpetta on Thursday, the leader had shown his total income for in 2017-18 financial year was Rs 1.11 crore. The income includes his salary as a lawmaker, income from royalty, rent, and other investments. Along with this, Gandhi continues to own a share in a farm he inherited in Delhi's Sultanpur village, worth around Rs 1.32 crore and has purchased two office spaces in Gurugram's Signature Tower in December 2014, which are worth over Rs. 8.75 crores. Also, owns some jewellery valued at around 2.91 lakh.
Regarding the court cases, the Congress chief has declared that he has five cases pending against him, four of which involve allegations of defamation. Mentioning other details, Gandhi has declared that he has an MPhil degree in Development Studies from Trinity College, University of Cambridge.
Other than Wayanad, Congress Chief is contesting from his home seat Amethi in Uttar Pradesh, where he yet to file his nomination. On Thursday, while filing nomination, he was accompanied by his sister and Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.
