Ahmedabad, July 12: Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi was granted bail on Friday by the Ahmedabad Metropolitan Court in connection with the criminal defamation suit filed against him by Ahmedabad District Cooperative Bank. The suit was also filed by ADCB chairman Ajay Patel.

Earlier in the day, before appearing for the hearing in the criminal defamation suit, thanked his opponents in the RSS and the BJP for providing him with opportunities to take his ideological battle against them to the public. Rahul to Appear Before Ahmedabad Metropolitan Court on July 12

Gandhi took to Twitter and wrote, "I'm in Ahmedabad today, to appear in another case filed against me by my political opponents in the RSS/ BJP. I thank them for providing me these platforms & opportunities to take my ideological battle against them to the public. Satyameva Jayate (sic)."

It is to be known that Gandhi and Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala had claimed last year that the Ahmedabad District Cooperative Bank was involved in a "scam" to swap Rs 745.59 crore with valid currency within five days after the announcement of demonetisation. In ADCB, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is one of the directors.
