New Delhi, August 8: Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Thursday expressed concern over the flood situation in some states, including in his Lok Sabha constituency Wayanad, and urged his party workers to help the affected people. In a series of tweets, Rahul Gandhi also said that he postponed his visit to Wayanad as the flood relief work would be affected. His tweets came amid the grim flood situation in several states.
"The flood situation in Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Odisha, Assam and Bihar is grim, with lakhs of citizens stranded or displaced. I request Congress workers in the affected states to do all they can to help those in need and pray that the flood waters soon subside," Rahul Gandhi tweeted. The Congress lawmaker expressed sympathises with the affected people in his Wayanad constituency. "The people of Wayanad, my Lok Sabha constituency, are in my thoughts and prayers as they battle raging flood waters. I was to travel to Wayanad, but I’ve now been advised by officials that my presence will disrupt relief operations. I’m awaiting their OK to travel," Gandhi said in another tweet. He said he spoke to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and other officials to ensure relief operations are being conducted in Wayanad. Gandhi said: "Earlier today I spoke to the Kerala Chief Minister, P. Vijayan, drawing his attention to the serious flood situation in Wayanad. I've also spoken to the collectors of Wayanad, Kozhikode and Malappuram to review relief measures being undertaken."

The Congress leader urged the party workers and leaders, citizens and NGOs working in Kerala to help with relief operations in flood-hit areas of Wayanad. "I hope the state government will release a generous financial rehabilitation package to help those who have been impacted by the floods," he added.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday said that heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy falls is likely to occur at isolated places over West Madhya Pradesh, East Rajasthan, Madhya Maharashtra, Kerala and Mahe, and South Interior Karnataka.
