New Delhi, October 26: Congress President Rahul Gandhi, who was arrested by Delhi police after his protest march against what he calls is the "sacking of CBI Director Alok Verma". The Congress President has claimed that Alok Verma, the CBI director who has been sent on a forced leave by the government, has been "sacked" because he was "investigating the Rafale deal." The Congress President criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and also raised the slogan "Chowkidar Chor Hai", while talking to the protestors.
The Congress President was taken to the Lodhi Colony Police Station, while his supporters kept chanting slogans in support of Rahul Gandhi outside the police station. Senior Congress leader from Rajasthan Ashok Gehlot and UP Congress leader Raj Babbar were also been arrested, said reports. On Friday morning, Rahul Gandhi embarked on a protest from Dayal Singh College on Lodhi Road to the CBI HQ. Though reports claimed that Rahul Gandhi courted arrest, the Congress claimed that he and the other leaders were arrested. The Supreme Court on Friday morning, heard the plea by exiled CBI Director Alok Verma. The Supreme Court, while hearing the pleas filed by Alok Verma and NGO Common Cause challenging his removal as the director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), today said that it will examine the matter and the inquiry will be completed in 10 days.
The Apex Court has issued notices to government, CVC and others. While hearing the case, CJI Ranjan Gogoi said, "Matter to be listed after Diwali break, interim CBI boss M Nageswara Rao, will not take any policy decision." The Supreme Court has decided November 12 as the next date of hearing in the case.
